✍🏾📝Six months of journaling!

All your memories, moments and thoughts in one digital space.📱

Hey friends,

Just something off the top of my head this morning. I woke up this morning, very free and relaxed having completed all my classes for this year, and said why not throw in something in Substack. As my routine is, I wrote my daily morning gratitude journal entry, and the DayOne app I use kindly reminded me that today marks exactly 6months of consistent daily journaling. Wow!

I’ve never looked at the calendar of the app showing you how many days you’ve written something, but looking at it this morning I saw I have consistently journaled since the 15th of June this year. This I’ve done either every night before bed, or every morning when I wake up, and look at how it has beautifully compounded.

Amazing features of this app include its integration of audio, video, photos and text, all in one entry. You can record a voice recording of how your day was and your thoughts. You know, how sometimes you want to let things out but have no one to talk to, so you talk into your phone😅. Good thing about that, is there is no room for prejudice or mockery from anyone, you are being completely honest with your feelings, thoughts and how your day was. You can also input videos of the day. I recently put in one of when I went bike riding with friends last week, and now for every year to come the app will remind me, on that date, of that wonderful day in the winding road of Gatundu. For photos it’s pretty obvious, you just attach the photo of the day and so one day you’ll actually remember what happened that day and who you spent it with. (I’m still using the free plan of the app and so I have liberty of only one photo or media attachment, and so I put in the best photo/video of the day). And the calendar view looks so cool when you view all the photos mixed in with the text🤩.

I used to write my entries since childhood in physical hard copy notebooks, but I soon realized I’m too lazy to buy the notebooks or just don’t like how most look like on the cover. It also gave me a sense of ‘schoolwork’ sitting down to write. Writing of long days after a long day also was so tiring and just not fun at all. Physical journals also tend to get lost or be victims of disasters such as fire. So I cast them off; ooh but I would be glad to find my childhood entries. When I was still so innocent and free with my thoughts and everyone.

But ever since I came across this DayOne app in WordPress ads and YouTube ads, I’ve never looked back. And my favorite YouTuber also has loads of videos about the app, and has personally helped me grow and improve how I journal. Here’s one such amazing video with over 1M views:

Aah it was a wonderful feeling, having done something so consistently for exactly six months. It’s probably the only thing I’ve done consistently, ever, other than annoying at least one person everyday since birth😄. But it’s definitely a feat. Obviously there are days you don’t want to journal coz of boring days or nothing significant of the day to write about, but once I realized everyday is a story, I wrote what I could. And plus, it’s something I look forward to everyday and love doing.

Before this gets to an extremely boring and long issue, I’ll not write of the benefits and drawbacks of this journaling thing. Sure, many people regard journaling as a girlish thing and childish thing. They call it a diary, which they’re completely right on. But I’ll not put up my defense today. I’ll leave the benefits and defense statement for when I hit at least 1year of consistent journaling. And trust me, this is not for everyone or an a must thing in life.

Anyway, good cheers😁!

❤️My favorite things this week (so far..)

  1. 📽️🎬Kungfu Panda 4’s coming up - I wonder what’s got me so excited. I’ve watched loads of anime and cartoons over the years, yet this lighted me up so much recently. Is it coz I was very bored and down most of this week?😅 Either way, I’m looking forward to it. I just love Po’s unseriousness to life yet always gets the job done. Just like Master Oogway’s faith in him, I’ve never had a doubt😂. But the trailer shows he’s coming up against a very mighty antagonist this time. Can’t wait! Lemme slap you with a quote I loved from Kungfu Panda 3:

✍🏽Quote of the Week (so far..)

Is there anything finer than this practice of examining one’s entire day?
