Settling Down🦄.

Hello friends,

This week’s been pretty ruggedšŸ™ƒ.

I’ve been battling a strange skin malady for about three weeks now and it has given me many painful soundless sleepless nights. I have definitely learnt of the importance of hygiene and cleanliness. The illness came after I used my towel for too long before washing it and it caused my skin to have itchy, bumpy, crispy rashes all over my chest and back area, all the way to the neck. A condition known as eczema. There are notable improvements now but damn, didn’t I learn of hygiene the tough way😬.

We also moved to a new apartment earlier this week, but more on that belowšŸ‘‡šŸ½ and on later issues of the newsletter. Relocating is definitely tiring and tough but glad we managed through. Ooh but the hustles and pressure of finding a good place to stay in Nairobi are tough. It is a real hustle to settle around here, especially with the price of everything skyrocketing. I definitely gotta write about that in a nearby-future newsletter.

This is my second issue of Brainwave Musings and you can clearly tell I still don’t know what I’m doing, and that’s okay. This is definitely new territory for me and I’m still learning and exploring all possibilities before I go full force on this writing thing. My goal by the end of the year is to have written and sent out at least one newsletter article per week, (most probably Sundays). This will have a lot of benefits to it like growing my community of recipients, improving my writing, going for more opportunities etc. If you would like to read my first posting I have attached its link here. I wrote of how I got over the fear of this ā€˜public’ writing.

ā¤ļøMy favorite things this week.

  1. šŸ“–šŸ“šBook club - I’m currently reading a book I was given in 2021 (lolšŸ˜…) known as ā€œWhen the grass is greener on the other sideā€ by Jackson Saya. It talks about how we often are attracted to a different lifestyle or status in life (or anything for that matter) thinking our condition is bad or ā€˜not greener’— as Saya puts it. Others call it peer pressure or mid life crisis, but whatever you call it, it is something that affects or has affected everyone at one point in life. Its a good book to check out if you are seeking clarity on such a situation. I specifically love Saya’s real-life examples that mostly resonate with youths.

  2. šŸ’»My websitešŸ˜„šŸ¤— - I finally finished setting up my website on Friday this week on Wordpress. Wow. The satisfaction it gives after toiling with it for almost three months now. Its not yet that much useful, just my portfolio and name. But once I start posting on it and updating it, it will be a great site for my future businesses and articles. I’m so excited about it. Can’t wait to share links of it here and see it grow. Stay tunedšŸ˜‰.

  3. āœšŸ½Journaling - I discovered this amazing app in September last year while scrolling through one Fred Okono’s wordpress account: the journaling app DayOne, which is completely free and is a great way to jot down life experiences as you go along. It all automatically backs up to your cloud and you can integrate pictures with your writing. I personally started digital journaling in mid June this year and it has been a daily habit since then. I’ve always been a fan of pen and paper journaling but I juggle it with this digital app now. Great app that I’ll write more about on one of these fine mornings.

  4. šŸ˜ļøNew Apartment - my sister and I moved to a new apartment earlier this week and so far so good. I love the place and we’ve settled in well. But we’ve all learnt an important and unforgettable lesson on the hustle of looking for a house in Nairobi and the cons and risks. Its definitely something to ponder about in future. Love the new place though🤠.

  5. āš”šŸ–„ļøMy Typing Speed - I recently discovered this website that helps you train your typing speed known as 10FastFingers. I’ve been practicing now for 5mins in the morning and 5mins before bed and the improvement is massive. In just three weeks I’ve gone from 28WPM to now 60WPM (words per minute)🤯. Definitely proving to me that practice makes perfect. Of course typing fast ain’t ā€˜cool’ or anything but it does look cool around people who type slowly🌚 and saves me a ton of time when typing a lengthy document on my laptop. Definitely a skill I wanna master😁. The goal is to reach 150WPM by December this year😌.

PS: If you have a few seconds to spare, please hit the <reply> button and let me know what you thought of this email. I’d love to hear your thoughts on it and what could be improved. It also reminds me that there’s another person reading it on the other end of my screenšŸ˜…. Thanks.

Have a wonderful week ahead!

Reagan.
