🦧Quit tomorrow😶

Hey friends,

It’s been a pretty task-filled week. It’s my last weeks at home before I embark on sophomore year and therefore I’m soaking all the moments in🦥.

This week, I continued watching a series I personally love known as SAS Australia. The reality series is about the world-famous British SAS, considered one of the world’s best military special forces unit. The show captures how some members are recruited into the unit by ex-SAS officers, if you weren’t in the army already. It is a very vigorous, brutal, insane recruitment, that definitely not every Tom and Harry can pass. The recruits are put through a series of very daunting tasks and not all make it through. It pushes one to the very core of human strength and to the most mental of challenges.

So in my watching of the series this week, a wonderful quote hit me - Quit Tomorrow!

Everytime a recruit would want to throw in the towel, the towering, loud, strict commanders, known as staff, would shout in their ear, “You are only allowed to quit tomorrow!” This was not used in its realest sense, but intentionally used to encourage the recruits that the task at hand, though seemingly impossible and excruciatingly painful, was manageable through a bit more patience of the mental and physical faculties. And once the physical powers seemed to start failing, they would be told to tell the mind, and convince it, that they complete the task at hand, then would they be allowed to quit the course tomorrow.

Tomorrow would turn into another tomorrow, and another, and another, until only three, out of 17 recruits, made it to the end of the recruitment process. Because the three constantly said in their minds that they would quit tomorrow, and tomorrow ended up being their graduation day from the course.

Now, of course such advice, if told to the wrong minds, would encourage wrong behavior. A drunkard would say he will quit drinking tomorrow, and ends up never quitting. An addict to anything would decide to quit his addiction tomorrow, and end up forever bound by the chains of addiction, never to reach his full potential. And so on.

But what my glass-half-full mind took out of it was that when under hardships or challenges of life, I would fight quitting/procrastination by trying to convince my mind that I can endure today then quit tomorrow. When tomorrow comes, I do the same, over and over again, until it is a no brainer.

This has especially helped me in my love for writing. In as much as it is tiring and most of the time pointless, I put it upon myself to write at least 1000 words a day. Everytime I sit in my desk in my boxers, free as a bird, about to write something I get the sudden feeling of ‘it’s not important’ or ‘this is pointless, who’s gonna read your weird conspiracies after you die’ or even worse, ‘you’re tired Reagan, no need to write today’. But I tell myself, lemme write for this Monday, I’ll quit on Tuesday. Come Tuesday, well, you know how it goes.

So, do you think this is a helpful motivator/advice? I would love to hear your take on it by hitting the <reply> button😜.

❤️My favorite things this week.

  1. 🎥Side hustle ideas for students video - one of my favorite YouTubers, Ali Abdaal, posted a recent video of a few hustle ideas for students, and it’s a great one. Real informative. If you are a student you can check it out. You can also check it out his wonderful website, mine is taking up shape soon👀.

  2. 📸A good web app for photos - an app that I discovered recently and have been using for the newsletter issues is this; Unsplash.com. Unsplash has many free images, some even generated by AI, and whatever image you need it will provide you with awesome, quality images.

  3. 💌The newsletter that made me start a newsletter - Ali has his own newsletter that I came across late last year and have been reading his issues since then. He started his newsletter in 2018 and five years later he makes at least $4000 per issue of his newsletter, from sponsors and readers. His writing is so cool too. You can check out his past issues here. It is known as Sunday Snippets. PS: for every referral click, I get a kick from it😛, so be sure to hit the links embedded😝.

Have a wonderful week ahead!

Reagan.
