Hey friends,
Well, this mid-week issue is mostly a make-up for last week’s Sunday issue that obligations didn’t allow me to write. But it is also an independent writing for my Wednesday’s column, since I want to make the Wednesday one a thing too. Still battling with that time-old problem of consistency.
Quick disclaimer: I don’t have anything to write today, but hey, here I am at my desk in my boxers, bored to death on a cold Wednesday at midnight; why not scribble something off the top of my head!🙃
Anyways, wasn’t last week a blast😃.
Last week, in all of Western Kenya and other parts of the country, it was the final week of SDA Camp Meetings, and being a lover of these things since my milk teeth days, I obviously attended. It was my neighboring church’s week of Camp, and it was awesome. From the guest choirs, to the food and to the powerful guest speakers, it was a very fulfilling week for me. But what was most exhilarating to me was my friends who showed up all week and climaxed their presence on Sabbath and Sunday.
We laughed. We joked. We danced (it was just kunyono, but still😂). We sang our hearts out to our God. It was fun.
Other than the preacher’s main point all week of staying rooted in this our God, something else made the hairs on my neck stand. On Saturday midday, I and a group of close friends went out to seek a place to dine in this our Muhoroni Town. Even I who was born and raised here by local women couldn’t know a place to eat ng’adi inyuandi (sliced up chapati mixed with bean stew in a polythene😂), simply because the hotels weren’t open on that day, and those that were open didn’t serve the beloved ng’adi inyuandi. We ended up settling at a small hotel to quench our thirsts with cold soda under the sweltering sun.
But the point I wanna bring home is how we were so free and genuinely happy to just drink sodas and laugh our hearts out, without a care in the world. It was as if all our burdens at home or stress from school and work were put on hold, and we were all caught up in that particular moment with friends. The world around us seemed silent and all our faculties centered on that moment with friends. It was not the sodas, nor the common ground of all being SDAs, but it was genuine friendship and love that enabled us to enjoy that little hour of lunch. We ended up taking wonderful pictures afterwards in church and continued the fun. If these my friends had instagrams I would link them here but let them read this and contact me😅.
So, when was the last time you genuinely had a moment of fun and bliss in nature with friends, or even by yourself; free from social media and worldly cares!? I would love to here your experiences and comments below👇🏽🙂.
❤️My Favorite Things This Week.
The Camp Meeting - as I said earlier, the week’s Camp was amazing! The sermons and lessons were real good and deep to the soul. Brought out salvation how it supposed to be - tackling my personal sins from their roots. The choirs were just something else, real soft beautiful singing. And the food, aah! Buana you cannot go wrong with SDA food. Trust me. Definitely staying in this our Adwen (SDA) :)
Friends - the friends I had this week made me feel alive again, after a long dragging period of not seeing the point to life. And it culminated so nicely when the youths in my church were cooking the send-off food for our guests and we stayed up all Saturday night cooking and making jolly in the cold night. You even forget the night is cold when chatting aloud at night under trees. Oh wait, that was heat from the cooking stoves, my bad!
Damn! Didn’t have a lot of favorites this week. Bummer!💔 Would have written down my favorite verses and sermon notes from the Camp but you’ll probably dismiss me as too religious. You’d also probably be bored by it coz it’s better heard from the preacher’s (horse’s) mouth himself; he put his messages so wonderfully.
But that’s enough scribbling for today. I hope you have a wonderful remaining work week ahead.
Reagan..✍🏽
